Peugeot price in UK

Post by zaki_406 »

I heard it is damn cheap compared to here in Malaysia. Please see below:
Hi all,
I'm sick of the overprice car here in Malaysia. On my visit to UK last
year, I find something quite interesting.
My cousin's salary were about 3500 pound str, the 318 bmw car price about
PS20K. Instalment PS 200. full tank PS 50.
If we compared here,
Salary let say RM5K, 318 BMW RM222K, full tank RM70, can we see the
different?
This is not to compared the RM with Pound Sterling, it's more on cost of
living. PS 50 there is just like RM 50 here.
What can we, small citizen do?, even kijang in Indonesia or Unser in
Malaysia cost only RM22K.
If proton's quality is at par with peugeot then OK la. I'll sure support
our own made. Frankly speaking, why you all doesn't want to support
proton? For me myself I feel if I buy proton, it's a waste. I still have
to pay monthly pymt abt RM700
Sorry, but I'm really dissatisfied. What to do. I'm not going to make too
much profit from my own people, unless they also can received what I
received from them. sad........... I'm only a normal citizen
or visit

Hari, thank you,
I never see or pass through any toll in London, or on my way from bristol
to London. and if I'm not mistaken, during my visit to France, (Pornichet
and Paris) or Germany (Frankfurt till Berlin) there are also no single
toll there. I don't know about insurance and road tax, but for fuel I
think it's the same. If we compare Pound and Ringgit at first sight, yes
it's a big amount. 50 pound = RM350 (it's my fuel for a month). And we
also must compare pound 3500 = RM24K salary a month.
What I'm trying to say is, they have more buying power and we here have
lesser. Why? Is it greedy? or we have another word to describe it?. If we
know the reason, can we solve it. I don't have time for all this highly
brain teaser, but we pay tax for them to think on how to do it better.
If we go further deep of why we can't be the same with them, it will make
me more sick. Well I'm not an economist, but there must be a way to serve
citizen better if we try harder.
Hari,
we can try to start to implement the problem solver to our issue to a
small group first. and then we see if we can move further. Let say, how to
reduce the price of puegeot spare parts in Malaysia. we open up our mind
on HOW. I think you can lead us as u got many experience

so ,would any1 agree?

in malaysia,a '97 2.0ST 406 deluxe auto is still selling for around RM50k i.e around GBP7k
saw one ad in UK for a 97 406 LX 2.0 is only going for GBP2k!!!that is around RM14k!!
Only a 12yr old car will fetch that price here in malaysia.and some 15yr old jap model still selling more than GBP2k!
Lucky u guys in UK!

lucky? go check out the prices in america or japan or even the rest of europe. Our car and fuel prices are the highest in all of europe. Its so comical that some cars, say a Rover MGF thats made here, then shipped out to Japan will be on sale there for about £4,000 less than in the UK !!!
Cant believe your prices are so much more than hours, can only presume you earn tons more there :)

yes,but far cheaper compared to malaysian prices.and our salary here is not as high as in UK or elsewhere.
e.g a fresh grad salary per month here is average around RM2-RM3k i.e around GBP400-500

believe it or not 99% of ppl here buy new cars with 9 years financing(108 months repayment) with abt average 4%p.a interest. That is abt 40% interest from the car price.1% may buy cash but very unlikely.
Used cars less than 10yr old can be bought with max financing of 7 yrs and slightly higher interest.Don't believe?Believe it.

why dont you buy. (for example..) 20, 12 year old ZX 1.9ds or TDs at about £300 each in uk auctions, them import them and sell them in your country? it sounds as though you would soon get very rich??? :-)

What a good idea but the Gov here imposed a very stupid law.To import cheap cars from elsewhere, the car must be less than 5 yrs old!!And the tax starts from 110% from the selling price and could go as high as 300% 3liter cars.
a 12 yr old ZX 1.9 TDi maybe rare here but the 2nd value of most european cars are low as ppl here prefer japanese, malaysian or korean cars for their value and reliability.Nobody would buy hence I couldn't make much money..:)
Better off importing Japs cars from UK or even Protons(made in malaysia).Strange that Protons are sold cheaper in UK and even higher specced than locally sold in her home country!
Japs cars has more gizmos and equiments though.

Protons hardly sell at all here. Very few dealers etc. Shame as I quite like the Satira GTi

i wonder what is so difficult for european manufacturers to include a remote boot release from inside?why must we press a button on the boot to release it?406 is slightly better and more modern via having the fuel flap release from inside.that is the first few euro cars to have that since cars were built 100yrs ago!
Japs cars has the boot and fuel flap release from inside since the late 70's!
and not many euro cars of yesteryear came with clock, radio compartment(not to mention hi-fi),power steering, power windows and electric sidemirrors.
now we see some improvements but the 90's era euro cars most only have front only power windows and the electric sidemirrors of japs car now can be folded electrically.
the only plus point of euro cars maybe handling and comfort as they tend to have better suspension with a lot more parts.the japs tend to skimp on this areas to make their cars more reliable, cheaper and less prone to breakdown or unncessary wear and tear.
