I have a 2006 C5 1.8L Hatchback that has done about 90k miles.
About a year ago (approx. 84k miles) I started to get P1160 error codes and the car would go into limp home mode.
Switching off the engine and restarting it seems to cure the limp home mode issue and the car drives normally. The service light comes on but after about 2 or 3 journeys it goes out.
This has happened now about a dozen times in the last year, but the car always 'sorts' itself out.
Recently a couple of times the engine has stopped at road junctions as I have coasted up to them but it restarts no problem at all.
I have cleaned the inside of the inlet cam cover that the vacuum hose from the inlet is connected to, it had a fair bit of stuff in it.
The idle has now started to get a little erratic especially now that I have changed the oil, the engine hunts a bit when the car is cold but seems to improve as it gets warmer. It had started to do this recently but changing the oil seems to have made it a little worse, I can't think why.
It's not desperate yet, but the problem seems to be getting worse.
I have thought about a replacement throttle body, but I am a little concerned about what is required regarding remapping the new unit as I don't have an ODB2 that can do the remapping.
Has anybody had this kind of thing happen to them or have any suggestions as to what I could try?
Thanks

Re: C5 Idling issues and P1161 fault code
One easy thing you could try would be to run a dose of injector cleaner through the car and see how it performs. Follow the instructions on the bottle and see how it goes, this is an example but there are many options to choose from: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310303209446 ... R6jggIG2Zg
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
