DPF Constant Regen

Unread post by jimmernet »

Hi!

Thank you for letting me join your forum! I have recently purchased a 2017 Boxer Floor Cab 335 L3 HDi 150. It's actually a horsebox, and was attracted to it as it is in great condition and very low mileage at 12,000 and drives fine.

However, it's started tying to perform a DPF regen - yellow light comes on and message about regen starting. I supposed that the box prob had just been trundling around at very low revs, so took it for a long spin with high revs to get the regen underway. The regen finished then pretty much immediately started again. Eventually culminating in a engine light, with P1490 error code. Thinking this was maybe an old code, I cleared it and took it out for a spin. The regen code came back on so I carred on for another spirited run on the motorway for 20-25 mins. No engine light yet, but its clearly not right.

I had a look at DPF itself and it looks pretty new - part code is BM11191h which google says is after market.

So at 12,000 miles and on it's second DPF, it has to be somethting else. How can I try and find out if there is a bad sensor somewhere - or should I take off the DPF and look for signs of oil (no white smoke in the exhaust)

Any thought greatfully recieved..

Cheers

It does seem strange to have had an aftermarket DPF at such a low mileage. I do wonder if it had run out of eolys fluid due to having had lots of top ups of low amounts of fuel. It is best practice to minimise the number of times you open the fuel flap as each time causes an injection of eolys and hence 'topping up' at a tenner a time can run you out of fluid. It is possibly a fault with the injection pump too meaning no eolys has got through and resulting in the DPF getting clogged very early and hence been replaced with a cheapo. I'd check the injection system is working, clean the DPF manually, reset the codes and top up the eolys and reset the counter and then see how it goes. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Welcome along

You need a scanner that can read live data to see what is going on. Is the exterior temperature read out working on the dash? This might be the Ford 'Puma' engine so it may have a 5th injector in the exhaust - these block up resulting in insufficient temperature to regen the filter - unusual for it to block up at low mileage, but if it's been used gently not impossible. That it already has an aftermarket filter on it suggests it has been a problem, and someone who doesn't know what they are doing has been fiddling....

Thanks that's a good shout - I didnt even know about this eolys fluid. I'll follow up and see but you'd def be on the right lines - this thing was hardly used at all for the first few years. These DPFs are not well thought out!

Hi I’ve not been able to get diags on it as all the adapters I have don’t work. However I have combed this forum and found the post about blocked vaporizer. I have got under the van, blown down the diesel tube and can confirm it’s blocked. I’ve ordered a new unit. I wanted to check the vaporiser fuse, and found posts/ info, but the fuse, or even the. Sub fuse board in the engine fuse box is not there… anyone know where else it might be… pic attached. There should be another strip of fuses above the panel with the lone relay
