Dpf error code

Unread post by Bazmatron »

Hi, I have a Rifter HDI 1.5, 21 plate, 50 k on the clock. I currently have a faulty EGR valve, due to be replaced shortly. (Spoticar refused warranty) just recently it threw up an error code P2002, DPF efficiency below threshold bank 1. Is this critical or will a good hot run up the motorway be all it requires ?

How many miles has it done?

A good run on the motorway can't do it any harm.

Unfortunately these like to crack the DPFs if there are any problems - is the exhaust tip sooty?

Can the Diagbox do a forced regen ? If I keep the car long term, it may help if and when I replace some sensors or parts.

A forced regen is very harsh, and if there is slightly too much soot it's very easy to overheat the DPF and crack or melt it. Fix the underlying fault then use a cleaner to get the pressure down and some of the soot washed out, then allow it to regen normally. Have a watch of some of O'Reilly's videos on YouTube - plenty of examples where forced regens (often repeated) have damaged the DPF, but because the underlying fault is not fixed, the overload comes straight back. It's very rarely the DPF actually at fault!

Hi Rchard, good to know. I'm used to doing forced regens on Hyster forklifts. Sometimes the units ended up glowing !! But they are built robustly for a harsh environment.
Think I will heed your advice and just do the EGR valve, fingers crossed it will then be trouble free.

You can try EGR cleaner, it's a two person job. And add DPF cleaner in the fuel tank. Forced regen is the last option if nothing else works.
