2007 C5 MK2 P0483 FAULT

Unread post by sydo »

Hello everyone, I have a 2007 C5 MK2 and I'm getting the P0483 cooling fan efficiency control error code. The temperature gauge is working, and I don't think the temperature sensor is faulty, but sometimes the fan runs constantly at high speed and never stops. I looked for the fan thermal resistor on the Citreön C5 MK2 but couldn't find it.

Does that happen because you have the aircon on? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

It has nothing to do with the air conditioner. My air conditioner is not active at the moment and there is no gas pipe.

Is there a fan resistor in the C5 MK2? Where exactly is it located? I couldn't find it on the fan.

The air con operates the slow speed cooling fan rather than the high speed cooling fan.

If the mk2 is the same as the mk1, there are two resistor banks like that - one brown and one grey.
They’re located on the front of the front core support, passenger side of the radiator. There is also then a vertical plastic housing there, with a clip-off cover, that houses a load of the relays associated with the fan control. It’s behind the front bumper grille and you need to remove the number to access it all.

Haynes “typical wiring” diagram was completely wrong for my mk1

If you have lexia/diagbox, then you should be able to test slow and high speed fan operation.

You can show the exact location of the resistor with a picture.

I'm sure there is, you just haven't found it.

I thought there was a resistor, but I looked everywhere on the radiator and couldn't find one.

There's a radiator fan resistor in the 407 C4 307 vehicles with the same 1.6HDI DV6 engine, but my C5 MK2 doesn't have one. It seems it's running a different cooling system. Or maybe I can't find it. I've looked everywhere on the radiator but can't find it.

It's there somewhere. This is from the Haynes C5 Mk1 & 2 manual and is much as I remember it from my Mk1. Instructions say you have to remove the front bumper although I don't remember doing that. Could be wrong though, it was over ten years ago!

I opened the cover in pictures 6.4 and 6.8, there is only the socket and the relay.

OK, at this point I have to say - maybe it's a single speed fan set-up!
