Could this be a boost leak ?

SYMPTOMS
  • Occasionally cold engine will not start on first ignition. Engine light comes on. Wait 30 seconds and it starts.
  • Occasional pulsing loss of power - sometimes when going up hills.
I read someone on the forum reporting a similar loss of power on hills being caused by a boost leak. Could it also explain faulty starting ?

Unlikely, no boost at cranking speed! Sounds more like the EGR valve to me.

Thanks OBD fault codes don't mention the EGR valve. Most recently I am getting :

P0100 - MAF sensor
P0001
P0003 - both fuel volume regulator
P0245 - Turbocharger wastegate valve

They all look like circuit faults - what are you reading it with? Suggestive of something pulling the 5v reference down, but I'd be surprised if they are permanent, as otherwise it wouldn't run at all! Really you need to get it on something that can read live data and have a look at crank signal and fuel pressure while it's being cranked. I would also look to see if the EGR valve is tightly following the requested position once it's running.
