Is my MAF sensor faulty ?

Unread post by Bizzy55 »

2013 Peugeot Partner HDI - not a mechanic, just a driver hoping to learn.

Sometimes the car does not start first time when the engine is cold. It turns over and the engine management light comes on. I wait about 20 seconds and the car starts. The car usually starts fine the rest of the day.

I also get occasional loss of power when driving.

Fault codes :
P0100 - Mass air flow sensor
P0001 - Fuel volume regulator
P0003 - Fuel volume regulator
P0245 - Turbocharger waste gate valve

As a complete novice, my guess is that this is a MAF sensor problem. I have attached the live data for a short trip of about 8 minutes. Is that line for the MAF abnormal ? Or do I need to look for something else in live data ?

Thanks for reading.

try disconnecting your MAF, The ECU has a base setting and if you have a failed MAF, it should run better and point you in the right direction

That does look a bit over peaky to me, especially when accelerating, I'd try cleaning it with a MAF cleaner spray as a first thing and see how it goes. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Does the engine management light go off once the engine is running ? Keep in mind the light comes on when the dash is lit up to show the bulb works but stays on until the engine runs and the various sensors are checked to show the engine emission systems are right - if this is what is happening then that is normal but if it stays on then that shows there is a fault.

You need to look at live data when it's cranking to see that you have rpm signal, cam / crank synch, vans fuel pressure. There might be a MAF signal, but at cranking rpm it's likely to be small.

The graph of airflow vs road speed is not that helpful - you need to plot measured against expected, or at least engine rpm.
