Hi one and all,
I do hope that someone with telematics knowledge can help.
My blue tooth devices have been deleted and all that is listed is an unknown iPhone, we do not own an iPhone.
It is described by the phone system as "iPhone" and must have been paired in the car.
Is it possible that there is any information that could be downloaded from the car's system such that the iPhone could be identified?
Thanks and TIA.
Andy.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find the answer to your question Andy but so far no luck. However I did come across a site that made me laugh out loud. It is supposed to be telling you how to identify an 'unknown device', I could not believe that it suggests you contact the manufacturer of the device with its model number and serial number!! If you had that it wouldn't be an 'unknown device'!!!! Or would it? Am I losing the plot here ?

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Thanks for looking, you couldn't make that up.
I am wondering if connection via pairing just creates a unique code between the two devices to enable a connection without any furthur identity. Nobody says that is what happens, so I will continue my quest and if anything comes up I will report back.
Andy.

Don't have an RT6 so can't advise for sure I'm afraid, but I've never come across a bluetooth connection that doesn't 'see' the device you're connecting to, as anything other than the name you've given the device itself.Estately wrote: 10 Aug 2025, 15:16 Thanks for looking, you couldn't make that up.

Andy.
i.e. if you had your iphone set on the phone itself to be called 'Iain's iphone' that is what any device connecting to it would 'see' and that that device would call it. Never come across a situation where it 'sees' or then calls it anything different?
I have come across situations where a car head unit can't delete previously stored devices though (even though it was meant to be able to). Firmware bug.

Thanks for you thoughts Iain,
Given that there must be lots of iPhones in circulation, the system must hold some other form of identification, not displayed on the screen, maybe the pairing code, 0000 or 1234 whatever, certainly a code to avoid connecting randomly to any iPhone and its contacts that may come in range.
Hence my question, the Sherlock in me wants to find the unknown phone that was used in the car.

Re: 2013 C5 X7 Hdi RT6 - Telematics
I thought the pairing code is randomly generated each time for a new connection and not used again - rather the paired devices remember the unique device ID of the other (which is not the publicly available ‘name’ - though it associates the two for display purposes) and that it has been authorised to connect; and that handshake just ‘lasts’ until intentionally broken by something?
I’m no expert and not researched that though - no doubt google will confirm!
Good luck tracking down the random ‘iPhone’!
