Fuel dilution & backwards DPF regens

Unread post by munkey »

Hi,

New here but always owned French vans through the generations, I have one of those Stellantis K0 chassis vans that's rebadged as every single brand under the sun, from what I gather it's the latest generation of the Dispatch. Specs are: 2020 plate, 1.5 bluehdi, 100ps, DPF but no Eolys

It appears to be failing regens when the van is driven, however during a regen when left to idle, or fast idle with a stick on the accelerator regens fine in about 5-15 minutes (idle pressure goes from 30hpa to 3hpa) which goes against everything I have learnt on the internet.

When the engine is loaded i.e. driven normally during a regen I have watched the differential pressures and soot build-up values barely decrease or even increase depending on the load which means it almost never completes, when I take my foot off the accelerator; the soot value rapidly drops as it should. Regens occur between 150 and 250 miles which seems frequent but it's got a DPF and SCR combined so I assume the DPF surface area is pretty small therefore it can't hold a lot of soot.

The van is now suffering from pretty severe oil dilution if I don't pull over and let it do a regen by holding the revs up slightly in neutral. I only tend to do motorway miles which in this case is isn't good news for performing complete regens.

Any ideas what is causing this backwards DPF issues and in turn the oil dilution?

Thanks

As you have been able to read soot levels etc I assume you have a decent diagnostic machine so you should be able to force a regen with it. Can you? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Just resurrecting this thread after getting the funds together for getting a new DPF fitted as the old one had cracked which I assumed was causing the odd issues... It turns out the broken DPF wasn't causing the issues and just happened to be cracked, also, now got a proper diagnostic tool and this is what's going on:

New DPF fitted plus EGT sensors and differential pressure piping. It still regens every 60-80 ish miles of mostly motorway driving. This is normally triggered around 8g or soot and 25 millibars of differential pressure at idle

DPF regen kicks in and if I am driving under load i.e. 65mph on the motorway or up a slight hill the soot weight goes UP(!) and the regen times out, I assume, after 25 minutes as it can still have a high diff pressure when it stops. If I let the engine idle during a regen the soot weight goes down quickly and the regen finishes in about 15 minutes with the soot going down to 2-3g and the differential pressure at idle going down to 5 millibars

Any suggestions welcome!
