Just bought a C5x

Unread post by GmanC »

Took the plunge last week and put a deposit down on a 73 reg Shine+ with only 3.5k on the clock and balance of warranty. Been reading some posts here about firmware issues but hopefully being registered November 23 it will be up to date. It was being sold at a Citroen dealer in Ashington who so far have been a decent bunch to deal with :)

Yes it's the 1.2 petrol and aware of the wet belt situation so wondering if it's worthwhile taking an extended warranty :?: Fortunately I've got an official PSA garage close by which should make life a bit easier for servicing etc.

Citroen have several plans available including a service package but not sure if that includes the warranty or not and if it's worth it. Never taken these out before but being an 18 month old car intend to do everything by the book.

Before you consider any extended warranty make sure it covers the wet belt failing!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

When i bought mine, I looked into the warranty side of things, and was basically told, enjoy the car and think about it a few months before the current manufacturers warranty runs out. The warranty on mine runs out next March, so will start looking at extensions in January.

Something to think about.... I believe everyone is after my money and will try to frighten me into parting with it, even if I don't need it - and they don't succeed!

The wet belt now has a 10 year warranty on it, providing the service history is up to date and the correct oil has been used.

Thanks peeps for the above.

Just been down to Ashington today to put a deposit on the car and a test drive and the salesman said exactly as above ie take the extended warranty out a few months before it expires and at the garage I intend to get the servicing done. So in my case I'll get wheels in motion September next year. Test drive was fine but aircon was a bit noisy which they'll look into before I finally collect the car :)

I got my C5X hybrid Shine+ on the 22nd. Test drove it before buying and it did seem at the time the auto aircon was working overtime. In one of the menu settings there is a 3 bar selector for "aggressiveness" to reach the desired temperature. I've set mine to the lowest level and all is fine.

Coming from a DS9 which I always thought had a very weedy motor I must say the aircon in the C5X seems well up to the job and is actually quiet, dare I say almost inaudible when you sort it out. Definitely better than the DS9, thats for sure where it always seemed to need the aircon on 3-4/8 fan speed to keep a constant temp in hot weather.

Thanks for the observation on the aircon :)

Which engine have you got and I know you haven't had it long but how are you finding it? Have to say the HUD is excellent and have read a few reviews which say it's the sort of set up you'd expect on really high end motors. The downside though is once you've had it you'll never want a car without it in the future apparently :-D

No probs. I have the 1.6 hybrid, got it last Tuesday. I'm finding it a pleasant place to be but I am surprised at the road noise. 2 days after buying it I did drive an equivalent just to check and it seemed the same. That said it hasnt got any car mats in at the moment and I just get a feeling the open boot space is just one big drum, especially as it isnt compartmentalised like a saloon is and the rear boot blind thing is light... the noise just goes straight into the cabin. See pic here viewtopic.php?t=83163&start=60

I will soundproof it a lot, perhaps adding as much as 20-30kg. Seems a fair amount but it only adds 1 or 2 percent to the existing weight of the car.

Apart from that all good. It's a nice place to be, the shape is practical, the tech is far more advanced than my existing DS9 had even if it takes a little time to get to grips with the new infotainment setup. Agree the HUD is excellent, I agree in a few years I wont want to go back. Only thing is....dunno if your're experiencing the same but I start the car sometimes and it's disengaged!

That's a new one re road noise as I don't think that's been picked up in any of the reviews I've read.

I can't comment on my experiences so far as I've just put a deposit on but hopefully will be picking it up within the next 3 weeks :)

But what do you mean 'disengaged' ?

New one on me too. I knew at higher speeds it had some road noise but was surprised at say 20mph how much there was. I am coming from a DIY sound deadened DS9 though. One thing for sure though that I havent mentioned the C5X does feel less of the road than the DS9.

Disengaged I mean the HUD sometimes switches itself off. Think it's happened twice that I've started the car and it wasn't there.
