My C6 at last! [BATTERY OFF FOR 30 SECS SOLVED WINDOW ANTI-PINCH ISSUE]

Unread post by HelioMV »

So guys, I've done it. I've done with the C5 and resolved to buy the ultimate mistake - a 2.7 HDi C6 Exclusive with a knocking engine, as it turns out, it's a bit scarier in real life that the Bburago model on top of my PC! I will be re-building this car's engine as it is very very rare here, gorgeous, lowish mileage and not very rusty - the price was not great but cheap enough, so I pulled the trigger! The car still runs fine but is knocking - not as violently (yet) as the C5 with the DMF but still significant. I am doing my research of course but will need some advice. I have another C6 lined up with a good bottom end. I'm hoping I can put both halves together and make a good engine, but that's to come after copious research and a bit of money hopefully! LR time will be my first port of call (for the millionth time)

When I arrived with it on the trailer I had had the windows open. When I tried putting the driver's one up it went bit-by-bit and did seat but after opening it again to back it in it went bit-by-bit but didn't fully seat and stopped responding. Now I *hope* something hasn't failed, but I hear the anti-pinch may need resetting after a battery off-on (again). Is this common behaviour on these, why would it have gone up mostly the first time but started bit by bit then stopped? Like I say I'm very very new to this beautiful but scary car. It's currently wrapped in cling-film and tarp in the POURING rain - of course that had to happen didn't it! Back ones went fine, front one was going but still not 100% then stopped

Any input appreciated - I hope to get to it tomorrow!

If I remember correctly (maybe wrong) the windows are designed to go up (but not all the way) then fully close AFTER the door shuts ??
....to prevent the glass shattering when you close the door ?

Brilliant, well done on the completely mad purchase (my rash X7 3.0 Tourer purchase was a similarly stupid decision - though not because knocking engine).

If you want to know about rebuilding these V6 engines, then L-R Time is the place to go (and even better - they're a hugely enjoyable watch)!

I think they have additional resources available on their patreon site, but I haven't delved in that.

oooo you do like a challenge :rofl2:

The windows will stop working after a couple of minutes when the car goes to sleep. They come back to life when the engine is running again. However, if the others are working, it sounds like the motor unit may have failed. PM me for parts if you need one. The anti pinch will need resetting after a battery disconnect. It's a simple process of closing the window and holding the button until you hear a click ( about 2-3 seconds).

How far West are you?
There may be an engine in the South East (of the North) that might be available if you don't fancy the rebuild. PM me and I'll connect you with the owner if it's still available. I also have a crank if you want one but shipping and import costs may make that an expensive option.

Thanks for the offer but no one else will touch this car! Also Engine rebuild by myself is the whole point!

Solved windows, was an easy fix, I asked a question when I should have just gone and done it rather than make myself look like amateur hour😂

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Sorry, being too sarky aren't I :-D

Still though, should have just learned from the C5 and just taken a step back, done the simple stuff before panicking, despite the rain!

Plenty more actual tough questions coming on the C6 I'm sure!
