citroen despatch 2000, 2.0hdi problem

Unread post by itsreal »

wotcha
my citroen despatch 2.0hdi year is 2000
it a disabled van ive done away with the ramp. made a tow bar to match the van

first problem was the egr stuck and sent it into limp mode
i over came that by blanking the vacuum pipe on the valve to the left of the cooling expansion tank

then used the cleaner in a can from halfords which worked. then no issues for 8 months
ANYWAY
For some time now
the engine has been stalling/ limp mode but keeps on running

when this happens
the temp light flicks to max
the stop light flashes and engine cuts out just for a second
the cooling fan comes on, but it can do it from cold and does that ramdomly

if i give it more throttle it tends to
stutter / miss until the revs pick up

so far i have fitted a new fuel pump relay
a new temp sender
changed the glow plug relay
i changed the diesel filter twice, once when i first got the van and once the irratic fault started

i stripped the wirering from the ecu to the engine
i found no faults, i did this because the power steering bottle had a small leak and i wondered if the oil had perished a wire.
when i fitted a new fuel pump relay, ive noted the plastic body feels warm
when the radiator fan comes on one of the blue relays in the fuse box clicks

ive checked the pin connectors which so far seem fine

non of the above have made any difference

last week end the crankshaft pulley rubber bush gave up
i managed to get where i was going and as a get me home welded the crank shaft pulley back together.

what i find is
it starts straight away
if its stalling as i start it cuts out then difficult to start but once running keeps going, above 50mph you hardly notice it
how ever any thing lower it misses last week it was missing like crazy hence the crankshaft pulley giving up

all this is random
you cant tell when it will do it

ive ordered a new crankshaft sensor

i dont like changing parts to find the fault

i had the van on a obd11 but it showed nothing
i simply cant afford to take it to a garage

i brought the van with 24k on the clock from new its now got just over 40k

my next item to attack is the radiator fan
ive not taken any of the injector bits off
there are no visable leaks
as you can tell im up against it.

HAS ANY ONE HAD THIS ?

That type of intermittant issue can often be the crankshaft sensor so I'd fit the one you have ordered and then see how it behaves. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Having made your own tow bar how will you get it type approved, this being a legal requirement for tow bars built after 1989 if you are going to tow with it (from a search) ? https://www.ultimatetowbars.co.uk/tow-b ... -approval/

See what difference a new crank shaft sensor makes but if no good, then whilst you say you can not afford to take it to a garage, it might still work out cheaper to have a diagnostic done at a dealer rather than keep replacing parts hoping to get it right before wasting too much money.
