Help Required, very young man in old car.

Unread post by Rp0thejester »

I'm young, I'm ginger and this heat is destroying me (you never see a ginger vampire). My C8s air con has never worked but it didn't need to until recently in this stupid heat. Does anyone have a parts diagram of the C8 air con so I can try to get it working?

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Do you know that there are parts missing or damaged?
Do you know if the refrigerant circuit has been open to the air?

While this is not for the C8 it is a site with a fair bit of generic info which should make it clear how the aircon works. The actual C8 wiring diagram is still the subject of my searching!! :-D

Does the compressor kick in when you switch it on? Does it do anything at all?

Probably needs gas and checking for leaks, maybe a new pressure switch too.

I'd look on Groupon for an ATS cheap regas deal and take it to them. If it doesn't work they'll give you a pretty good idea why.

The problem is the car has had a replacement engine so I'm not even sure if it has the AC parts on the engine, hence needing the parts diagram.

Rain and 19-21c by Tuesday....even a lost Penguin can cope with that :)

Cool bag, freezer blocks and some damp flannels in jiffy bags with some bottled water to re-wet them.

First check that the major components and pipes are present in the engine compartment.

There should be a compressor driven by the aux belt, usually mounted below the alternator on a PSA engine.

The compressor should have 2 Aluminium pipes, the low pressure line is the larger, and should find it's easy to th evaporator connector on the bulkhead.

The smaller pipe on the compressor should go to the condenser, which is a radiator-like thing, mounted in front of the engine radiator. The other pipe from the condenser goes to the drier and pressure sensor.

From the drier, a smaller diameter pipe goes to the TXV which is mounted on the bulkhead beside the low pressure connection.
