Hello from another newbie

Unread post by Bazilica20 »

Hello one and all and thanks for the addition to this fine group.

I have just acquired a 2007 Citroen Berlingo Van with a 1.6 HDI engine.Previous to that i had a 2005 1.9 for 10 years that saw its end with 220k on the clock...amazing workhorses.

I'm slowly going through this new van as you do servicing, brakes and all the usual stuff...but found the EGR valve was quite blocked and even after a good clean, the electrical side that sits on the top was still seized despite a strip down and clean.

Bought a cheap and cheerful replacement(i can hear the ooo,s and ahhh,s already lol) and i guess i need to get it calibrated with the engine.Bought one of those Diagbox/Lexia interfaces from Ebay(i can hear more groans)as im sure a few on here have. Its showing me a couple of fault codes on the EGR side which i expected to see,but dosent allow me to access the " new parts " menu to add the new component so the ECU recognises it I think the software is just the usual "knock off"if im honest that seems to be out there.

I guess my question is...what are my options? Find a garage locally to sort this for me?(Im in West Sussex) search for some different software,or blank the EGR off, dont really want to do that as i guess its there for a reason.

I've always been of the mind, buy the tools and sort it yourself but maybe this is one for the specialists.Seems to run well, but is very snatchywhen on and off the gas in slow traffic.

Sorry if this post belongs in another section....newbie mistake if it does, but any tips from the guru,s would be amazing.

Many thanks Barry
