Yesterday our XSARA PICASSO 1.8 had a R134a refill.
Afterwards the Airco cooled inmediately, so I drove off accepting the 'repair'.
But after 5 minutes of driving. warm air again.
This symptom repeats when the car is turned off for a while. (couple of minutes of cooling, then just non-cooled air)
They should have done a vacuum test, so such a dramatic leak is unlikely.
Trying to check the recommended refill quantaties I stumbled upon this chart:
https://www.mijngrossier.nl/wp-content/ ... issens.pdf
The XSARA Picasso was filled with 650gram of R134a.
If I read the chart correctly that is too much.
Question 1:
What is the recommended quantity?
Question 2:
What are the possible causes for this symptom?

Too much gas could be causing a high pressure and shutting the system down - but usually you need a big excess to do that. You really need to get it on diag computer to see what is going on. Is the engine cooling fan running when the A/C is switched on?

Have a look in your handbook since it might list things that turn off the air con such as if the engine is getting too hot.

You may find the gas quantity on the compressor sticker or even one of the under bonnet stickers, worth a look at least.

Thank you for the quick replies!
I have a VLINK adapter to connect with my iPhone. I will see what it allows me to see.
But that depends on the software. I use "Car Scanner" and "EOBD Facile" (any other recommendations for Citroen?)

Are there diagrams available for the Xsara Picasso?
like the one found in this thread? (this is for C3 Picasso)

Can this be analyzed via the OBD-2 connector?RichardW wrote: 04 Jul 2025, 11:29 You really need to get it on diag computer to see what is going on. Is the engine cooling fan running when the A/C is switched on?

I am downloading the owners manual right now. (as my partner is currently on the move with the car)PaulC5 wrote: 04 Jul 2025, 12:01 Have a look in your handbook since it might list things that turn off the air con such as if the engine is getting too hot.

Re: XSARA Picasso Airco refill quantity R134a
The first thing that stuck me about the chart was how out of date it is. It only lists the ordinary Xsara, not the Picasso as well. I have no idea for sure but maybe the Picasso, being a bigger vehicle and not really related to Xsara, might have a greater capacity?
