2020 Berlingo 1.5Bhdi

Unread post by njf1972 »

I have recently purchased the said van, the reverse lights stay on my mechanic has disconnected the switch but they still stay on so for now he has removed the bulbs so when I reverse I use my hazards, I get hill start system fault on the radio screen and my traction control light only goes off when I do 40MPH, recently I had the amber adblue light with the wavey lights on my dash along with the engine light so I went to buy some from a store but I had to call the RAC out because it said emmissions fault starting impossible so they came and reset the computer I am just after some advice please by the way the previous owner has had the adblue injector and NOx sensor done a few thousand miles ago.

How many miles has it done?
How old is the battery?

Are the reverse lights on all the time, if so there might be an earth fault on the bulb holder/rear light or a wiring fault to the reverse light from the reverse switch.

Can you post the fault code the RAC found before they deleted it.

Had you run out of Adblue ?

Not sure on the age of the battery as it was on when I got it, Yes the reverse lights are on all the time that's why the mechanic has removed them and the RAC didn't give me any codes unfortunately and never asked to sign anything which was unusual and no I hadn't ran out of Adblue I bought 10L of it and hardly used any when I put some in the tank before it started to come back out, I have bought and put in some Wynn's Crystal Clean & Protect put it in Friday night, the van has done just over 77K it's also a stop start which doesn't work could that be down to the age of the battery?

It's certainly possible that a new battery could cure at least some of the problems. If you post a photo or two of the battery (assuming you can see enough of it!) someone might be able to identify it as the original battery or a replacement battery that's incorrect.

Here's a picture of the battery as requested.

Being an Exide battery I suspect it is not the original one. It may be the same spec but I do not know what the original one would have been.

I would have thought it should be an AGM battery for S&S vehicles. If so it's slightly under spec. Correct is 70Ah 760A, the Exide is 70Ah 700A. It could be quite old as well, I couldn't see a date but visually it looks old.

Is there a battery specialist near to you that could do a proper test? Not just a simple voltage check. I believe that Halfords offer a free test.

There's nothing obvious there to indicate the date, sorry.
