Was all ready to re-ring the lump(123k miles only as well) because of pressure and smoking at the oil-filler, based on compression tests of course. Did tests and all came in within 5% of 380psi. Car shows absolutely NO symptoms of ring wear or valve problems, uses no fluids, doesnt smoke either hot or cold and goes like stink. Turbo fine, CCV valve and pipes ok. Car couldnt be healthier. Only thing I have done maybe 10k ago was to blank the egr. I decided the benefits to the engine outweighed the disadvantages - ok, the polar bears wont thank me for it but I havent melted the ice-cap on my own. Some said in the early days of this mod that there maybe some increase in pressure to the crank-case along with hotter running issues resulting in premature valve seat burn. Proved no detrement on my other hdi engines so I went for it again on this.
Any ideas as to what other issues may be causing these (what looks like blow-by) symptoms. I would have thought a good compression reading was pretty difinitive.

A cylinder leakdown test would give a better idea of what's going on

Based on those details, I'd leave it be!Pluggit wrote: 27 Jun 2025, 16:46 Did tests and all came in within 5% of 380psi. Yep. After a pretty stormy 6 weeks of a heart-attack and surgery Im not taking this too seriously. It runs great and gets used very little now so rebuilds are not on my priority list. It needs to be much worse than it is before I start worrying too much. thanks for the input.
