Hi!
I’m having an issue with my 2013 Citroën DS3 1.6 THP and hoping someone here might have some insight.
My problem is, as soon as I start the engine, even after the car has been parked overnight, a warning massage appears in the car saying: ”engine temperature fault: stop the vehicle” and the coolant temperature gauge instantly goes to maximum, and the cooling fan starts running at full speed. The engine is completely cold when this happens.
I’ve had the car in at the mechanic but they can’t find the solution to the problem. What they’ve done is: diagnostic check, but hasn’t found any codes.
They’ve replaced the thermostat housing assembly and also the engine coolant temperature sensor.
They’ve also replaced the radiator fan resistor, but nothing seems to fix the problem.
Have any of you experienced this issue or something similar on the 1.6 THP engine?
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Re: Citroën ds3 1.6 thp ”engine temperature fault”
I have heard that the external temperature sensor can give the ECU a false reading causing the ECU to think that the difference between the ambient and engine temperatures is too great and thus assumes the engine is overheating. I don't know if that idea is true or not but it is a plausible explanation for your situation. I'd have the ambient temperature sensor replaced and see if that works, it shouldn't be too expensive.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Citroën ds3 1.6 thp ”engine temperature fault”
Any time i have seen this fault is has been the coolant temp sensor at fault, i've replaced more of them than i could count. Was the coolant temp sensor a quality part or was it from Sweden's equivalent of Euro Car Parts? Famous in the UK for supplying poor quality parts that are often faulty straight out the box.
The other thing to check is unplug the ECU & check for signs of coolant in the connectors, sounds crazy but its not unheard of, the sensor cracks & pressurised coolant runs up the wire & into the ECU connector
