Help needed

Unread post by Nelly1712 »

Hi guys. My mums 2015 Citroen ds5 2.0 hdi (AHW DW10FC) died on the way home from Norfolk the other day and had to be recovered back to Wigan. The car wouldnt restart and hasn’t done since.

She said that the car had a strong smell when she was driving, of what she thinks is oil.

I’ve plugged into the vehicle with a diagnostics machine and the following codes have come up

P00BA - Low Pressure Fuel Circuit.
Fuel Pressure Lower Than The Reference Value (Threshold 1)
P1113 - Fuel High Pressure Circuit. Fuel Pressure Below The Minimum Threshold
P0087 - Fuel High Pressure Circuit.
Fuel Pressure Lower Than The Reference Value
P008A - Low Pressure Fuel Circuit.
Fuel Pressure Lower Than The Reference Value (Threshold 2)

P2291 - Starting Monitoring, Starting Monitoring High Pressure Fuel Circuit Fuel Pressure Rise Time Too Long (Threshold 1)

I can smell diesel in the engine bay, but can’t see any obvious signs of a leak. When putting the ignition on, I can hear what sounds like air bubble/slurping sound in the fuel tank. I thought maybe the fuel was too low, however it’s got fuel in, low amount but has fuel in according to the digital gauge.

Really unsure what the issue could be. I’ve had a Quick Look online to see if there are any fuses relays for the low pressure fuel pump, but couldn’t find any information for some reason. However I suspect the pump is working as I can hear it (albeit slurping)

Can anybody offer any help please?

What is the fuel level showing rather than just low ?

Sounds as if you need to put some fuel in as a low cost thing to eliminate the low level and also try to avoid fuel pump damage if the level is too low. Also look under the car to make sure the pipes are not leaking fuel.

Hi

It’s showing there’s 1 bar of fuel left. When it does she said that she’d had no warning of low fuel. So that why I wasn’t thinking it was too low fuel Cheers

Never trust a fuel gauge.

I have not seen a DS5 fuel gauge so not sure what 1 bar means but a guess is it means there is between 0 and a few litres of fuel. It is not a good idea to run a diesel on very low fuel levels, the muck in the bottom of the tank can be disturbed and if the fuel runs out the fuel pumps can be damaged.

Edit. A quick look in a DS5 handbook suggests the tank is 60 litres and the gauge has possibly 12 bars to it so a single bar might be up to 5 litres of fuel - not very much.

All sorted I think. Got some diesel in a fuel can and filled it up. Started almost straight away. But then I could smell diesel really strong. Found it was leaking from the fuel temp sensor located at the front top of the engine. There’s a metal clip that holds the fuel temp sensor in place and for some reason it’s snapped. Ordered a new clip from Citroen £12. Hopefully that’s the only issue.
