Hi, I have this old 2004 Berlingo 1.4i. VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. OPR: 10007FV. Gearbox is 5M 20CP37
Anyone had these fully dissasembled?
It has gotten pretty hard to downshift into 2nd, and even more so into 1st.
I guess I'll need the whole synchro-mesch assy for 1/2, or at least the synch.rings/clutches and the two gears with rounded teeth, and the ring/sleeve, and possibly the hub.
Looking at the EPC I cant find the clutches/brakes, usually the synch.rings have an inner cone which mates with an outer cone on the gear.
But looking at the EPC drawings and google-pix of the parts I cant see any cones, the gears are 'flat' and the synch.rings have inner splines/teeth. Same for 3/4.
Looking at the EPC it looks like I'd need parts 3+4+7 to fix the problem. Is this correct ? But there are no clutches/brakes ??
See EPC pic for ref.

Re: Berlingo gearbox 1/2 synchro parts
Before diving into the gearbox, has the oil been changed? If the box has been filled with GL5 specification oil rather than the correct GL4, then the synchromesh will not work correctly.

Changed the oil 2 years ago, some 75W-90 API GL4

Note to myself, and others who may be interested:
The YT video below clearly show that the gear wheels actually has the outer clutch cone that I mentioned.
Usually in other gearboxes these are finely ground to a near mirror finish, but on these wheels they're black and pretty rough...
I now also know that my gearbox is not any of the BE3/4/5 versions, but a MA5 type, and also
the latest version of the MA5 (on which they have removed the oil level inspection plug that were present on the earlier versions).
