C4 picasso Instrument cluster brightness

I have a 2014 C4 picasso which had the dreaded black areas on the screen.
I bought a replacement on AliExpress, fitted it but it is just too dim even on maximum brightness. I contacted the seller who sent a replacement which isn't any better. I sent photos to the seller as requested and he informed me that mine is a 10 pin connection, which it is but the new screens are 9 pin and that is the only type available. I had never heard about the 9 or 10 pin problem and wonder if that is correct. I have located a 10 pin replacement on AliExpress and wonder if that would solve my problem
