Hello - I have a Citroen Grand Picasso from 2015, Bluehdi 2.0 150hp VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
So the car is running fine, its 10 years and 110000km, in for second belt/waterpump change now as 5 years has passed since last change.
My local and very skilled mechanic advised to also change the chain that drives the exhaust cam while changing the belt/pump, as that is what he normally does on similar engines.
I ordered the appropriate chain+kit (https://www.autodoc.co.uk/blue-print/7981171), but it seems a special tool is needed to fit, the ones he has got is incorrect, and is seems very difficult for him to identify exactly which tool/set to get and how and where to get it... Leaving me a bit unsure if I should proceed without swapping the chain or not.
1 - Does anyone know if this chain is even necessary to change as part of periodic maintenance? Cant see it mentioned anywhere.
2 - Does anyone happen to know exactly what special tool this is and where to purchase it?
3 - Is the procedure of the change of chain available in any documentation that i can share with the mechanic (and most of all to better understand the issue myself).
Many, many thanks in advance for charing your thoughts on this!

Hi I have no personal knowledge of this issue but looking around the forums I believe the chain is a non serviceable item designed to last the lifetime of the engine when the engine is maintained correctly. Have a read through this thread on a Peugeot forum and you may have a better idea, or be completely flummoxed of course!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

That link above relates to the 1.5 engine though which has a known issue with the chain snapping du to it being too thin at 7mm, you can replace them for an 8mm chain if there are issues.
The OP is talking about the 2.0 engine which although is a similar design I don't think it has the same issues as the 1.5, not as long as the services and correct oil are kept to schedule anyway. I wouldn't be changing it just because as its such a big job, I think the injectors have to come out and stuff like that.
There is quite a good youtube channel called Alan Howatt that has loads of videos repairing the 2.0 engine in taxis, albeit the TDCI version in the Mondeos.

Thanks, after checking with several authorized workshops it became clear it is exactly as stated above. It is not something that needs to be changed as part of normal interval service and it is a rather advanced task. So, in case someone has the same question - no need to change it.
