peugeot 407 1.6 HDI (2007) glow plugs query

Unread post by ozzy007 »

My Peugeot 407 1,6 HDI is becoming very sluggish to drive in terms of acceleration. Lacks power on any incline, i have replaced oil filters. Previous owner said it needed the glow plugs replacing but my mechanic father (who admits his diesel knowledge isn't great) thinks that only affects the starting of the car (which is fine). Will changing glow plugs make a difference?

I have had similar caused by the MAF being dirty.
Cleaned it with carburettor cleaner and all was well again. Happened with two different C5s.
If you do decide to clean it be very careful with it, don't drop or jar it and don't touch the two fine wires with anything other than the spray.

Also, the second one, when I bought it was very sluggish.
Took it to a garage near where I worked and they took out all the inlet hoses and cleaned them, stuffed with oily carbon. Cleaned the EGR and turbo too. It was a completely different car when I collected it and went like stink.

If the fuel filter has not been changed recently that is something you could do, otherwise you may need a diagnostic to see if there is anything wrong.
