Clutch flywheel combo - not ok?

Unread post by GeorgV »

Hi,

My car (see under my name) has some issues with the clutch, at least that is what I assume. When accelerating in 6th gear the engine speed goes up faster then normal, acceleration is no longer as it used to be. With only 80k mileage (km), I think that this is a bit early. :-(

Anyway I went to a technician and his answer was: "yes, you can feel it the moment you press the pedal. There is almost nothing left". This does not ring a bell to me, I guess that this is also a method to diagnose this kind of problems. Another thing he said was that this model may have a combined "clutch disc - flywheel" setup. Repairing means replacing both.

Does anyone have experience with clutch disc wear on this car? What would be the price to replace and fix this? Please share your thoughts.

Sounds like clutch slipping, Not sure what he means by a ''combined clutch disc-flywheel set up, Might have a Dual mass flywheel and if you are paying for someone to do the job it would be worth changing, If I was doing my own I would only change it if needed after strip down and inspection,,,, But I am a tight arse!
Always worth a second opinion from another garage

A slipping/worn clutch is likely to be first seen going up a hill in a high gear with the engine rpm increasing but the road speed not increasing.
