1.6 BlueHDi - Cam Chains?

Unread post by seefourpio »

Hi,

2015 C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 BlueHDi

I've been trying to arrange a timing belt replacement as the car is reaching the 10 year interval (albeit with relatively low miles (45k)). However, I've been getting conflicting information.

My usual garage say they are unable to do the job because the engine also has a cam chain and they don't have the tooling to set the tension on a replacement chain. Another garage reports that the 8-valve engine only has the one cam and no cam chain - which is what I originally thought, but after searhing the Internet, I'm now uncertain.

Would you be able to advise as to the engine type and if it has a cam chain?

Many thanks,

Mark

That will be an 8v, no chain. Very straightforward belt to change. Only the early pre 2011 16v and post 2018 1.5s have chains.

As a guide, to replace the belt, water pump, tensioner, coolant, alternator belt on our 2016 1.6 blue hdi Cactus was £780 at a Citroen dealer 1½ years ago. Other places may charge less but for important things like the belt I prefer to use a dealer.

You are wise to not leave it too late to replace the belt if you are keeping the car, if it breaks the costs will be high and you would still need a new belt.
