Hi,
C5 X7 Petrol Saloon WN09NLU 2009
Had a suspension failure error code come up on my dash screen which said to only drive at 55kms which I did but was half an hour from home so had travelled quite far before I was able to check problem. On investigation the pump had stopped running as everything else looked ok we removed it and replaced it with a spare pump but it still wasn't running. After a lot of trial-and-error fault was finally found to be the 12v supply which was there but wasn't giving enough amps to run the pump. We ran a fused supply straight from the battery bypassing the relay, refitted the original pump and the pump is now working again.
Ever since I've found the ride to be firm and can't feel any difference between normal and sport modes. I did hit a pothole when driving home when the pump wasn't running which made quite a loud bang so think I may have managed to damage the sphere(s).
I'd like to replace the relay but don't know the part number its inline from battery to pump can anyone help?
The car has just come up to 150,000 miles but was riding superbly before the failure so have I damaged the spheres?
Being an X7 I'm told the suspension ECU doesn't require reprograming and anyway I've refitted the original.
Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated....
Tony

I think there is a fuse in a small fuse box (possibly a red cover) next to the left wing (when looking from the back of the car) which is for the pump - this can fail if the pump motor is getting fouled up. Not sure if this is the fuse you checked. It might be a 40 amp midi fuse part no. 6500AV https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174655146981

Hi yes we chkd that fuse it hadn't blown and power was getting to the pump but wasn't enough to run the pump ... We think the relay was degrading the supply somehow as when bypassed the pump runs fine !

Thats why I'm looking for the relay part number as well as the sphere issue

I wonder, did you check the brushes when the pomp was out of the car?
I think you have to check the contacts of the motor fuse on black oxide.
The pomp relay is always on, when the engine is running the on/off command from the motor comes from the black box (BHI) on top of the motor.
For testing the spheres, just press on the corner when the car is on the correct height, then you can compair if there's any difference between left/right.

Hi
I tested the pump when it was out of the car by connecting the power and then applying +12v to the actuator terminal and it ran ok.
Not sure what you mean by the on/off comes from the BHI unit as in does this effect the ride?

You look for a different relay, I try to explain, that when the car is running, this relay is constant on, so it's strange that this will gif a problem on normal ride and I try to explain, that the motor get it's command to run or stop from the BHI, so not from a relay.
It's a common known if there's a problem with the motor that the brushes are contaminated with dust and spil of the lds fluid, this is why I ask if you look at them.

Hi
Oh ok thanks I understand.
The Pump is fine its brushes are ok and it runs as normal now I've given it a new feed from the battery. I just wanted to find the relay part number so as to be able to replace it to see if it was causing the problem etc.

The Hard ride is what I'm really trying to solve and think that I probably have damaged one or more of the spheres when driving without the pump running and hitting that pothole?
Given that the Spheres look pretty original and if so have done 150,000+ miles hitting that pothole (it was a very hard and loud metallic sound) might have been too much for them to survive. I’ve seen other posts talking about breaking diaphragms etc
Do I just try replacing the front two or ???

This is what I give you as advice, yes it's possible that the sphere is broken, because there a few knives inside the sphere.
