Xantia MK II - From where LHM can leak to the car intrior

Unread post by lancia58 »

Hi,

I found lots of LHM under the left carpets ( LHD car ) , both rear and front carpets. Under the carpets there is sound proofing sponge. The sponge is soaked with LHM . I didn't find anyway to absorb the LHM, neither clean the sponge. I took apart these carpets from two salvaged Xantia and in both Xantias the left carpets sponge ( rear and front ) were also soaked with LHM. I took the right carpets from the salvaged Xantia. I cut the bottom of the left sponge ( the bottom was soaked with LHM ) and from the right sponge ( from the salvaged Xantia ) and change them for the rear and front sponges. So no I have a clean sponges.

I afraid that if I wont find and fix the LHM leakage after a while the sponges will be soaked again with LHM.

So my question is from where LHM can leak to the interior of the car. The car is LHD and the leakage is at the left side . The source for the leakage I think about is the Doser , but I almost sure there are other sources for the leakage.

Anyone can point for other sources for LHM leakage into the car interior

Thanks
Zohar

It is a very common fault.

Being a LHD, yours should have better access on the engine bay side, but you will need to remove the front carpet for cleaning.

Hi,

I removed the front and rear left carpets. The sponges under the carpets were soaked with LHM. In two salvaged Xantia's I found the same problem so I guess it is a typical flew. As I described I combine left and right sponges to get an LHM free left sound profing sponge. I have to fix the leakage. So any idea for the possible leakage source is welcome

Thanks
