Air bag light on Boxer after seat change

Hi,

I have removed the bench seat from my Peugeot Boxer and replaced it with a single and now have an airbag light on.

After much research I have added various resistors to the occupancy detector (390Ω, seatbelt buckle (2.2kΩ) and pretensioner (2.2Ω) plugs.

I have an (unclearable) fault B0118:95 Permanent fault Configuration lost and I believe that I need to do a Proxi Align to rectify this.

I've looked into Multiecuscan but am not sure it will work on my vehicle.

Ok so further research reveals my van is probably fitted with a Secure Gateway (SGW) device which might be bypassable with a Security Gateway bypass adaptor from Gendan. However if the SGW is integrated to BCM it's not bypassable. I'm not sure how to tell if it's integrated or not.

I believe Snap-on diagnostics can access the Fiat/Peugeot servers to get past the SGW but I don't know anyone who has one who is prepared to help.

My local Peugeot dealer said they can't help and recommended a local Vehicle Electrician who said he wouldn't change anything to do with the Airbag system.


I'm at a bit of a dead end and geting desperate as my MoT is looming

Not that I have tried this, and nor do I recommend it, but it might bide you some time. It is known in some circles in Australia that removing the dash illumination globe for the airbag system will get a vehicle passed by the annual inspection. It is also known to have fooled some buyers of used cars into thinking that they were purchasing a roadworthy vehicle, when in fact they were not.

My 2003 406 is currently a static showpiece because the previous owner did exactly that to me, amongst other shonky* things when he sold me the car.

*Shonky - is this a known word in England? I know that Australians and English people both speak English, but there are some 'interesting' differences. Thankfully not as many as between the U.S.A and Australia.

when the car is MOT'd the tester is supposed to check the warning and info lights on the dash.
The airbag light should glow for about ten seconds to show that the bulb is OK, then go out to show the system is OK.

Not all testers notice if the airbag light doesn't show but that can never be relied on.

'Shonky' is indeed a common term here but I think it is an American import.

Not that common. I've never heard the term "shonky" before! I can guess from the context that it means shady or suspect perhaps?

Well, I've solved the problem!

My van does indeed have SGW and I was disappointed to discover it's the integrated version so can't be bypassed. I was in a Catch 22 situation where the only devices that can communicate with my Airbag module aren't able to do a Proxi Align.

Then I discovered a company called CrashData who specialise in fixing airbag problems so I sent my ECU off to them and, Lo and Behold, they sent me back a working ECU! Whoop, no airbag light.

Thanks to anyone who helped and leaving this here in the hope it helps someone else in the future.
