Hello!
I have a Citroën Xsara Break (N2) 1.6 petrol from the year 2000. My problem is that the ESP warning light is constantly on on the dashboard, along with a red indicator light. I couldn’t find an ESP button in the car, and I’m not even sure if the car actually has ESP.
I’d like to solve this issue so that these two warning lights turn off and the car can be used properly. It has already been to a mechanic, but due to lack of time, we couldn’t find a solution.
Has anyone seen this issue before or experienced something similar? Where would you start looking for the cause of the problem?

I would be surprised if a 2000 model Xsara has ESP. What is your VIN?
Any fault codes in the ABS system? Are the brake lights working correctly?

The brake light are working correctly, to my knowledge the only fault code is a lambda sensor. But not any mechanic can read the fault codes correctly one of them don't see any code but one see the lambda sensor.
The VIN code is probably V F 7 N 2NFUB73055670

Thank you for the information. Where should I continue looking for the problem?
I’ve attached a photo as well.

I can’t see an ESP light, only ABS.
Really needs a diag check on the ABS system to at least get a hint in the right direction.

Re: Citroën Xsara Break (n2) ESP Problem
I see. In the user’s manual, the yellow icon looked like it might be the ESP warning, which is why I started looking in that direction. This is my first car, and honestly, I don’t have much experience with these things yet.
It’s also difficult to find a mechanic in my area who’s willing to work on it, so it hasn’t been easy. The only error code that came up when a mechanic checked it was related to the lambda sensor.
From what I’ve been able to find so far, it might be related to the ABS system. I’m a student, so I have a very limited budget to maintain the car, which is why I’m trying to avoid taking it to a professional garage for now.
Could it possibly be an ABS sensor issue, or maybe a broken/damaged wire in that area?
What would you do if you were in my position?

Yes it could be a wheel speed sensor but there is one on each wheel. Did the mechanic read the ABS system (not just the engine management)?

Yes, he also checked that and said he didn’t find any faults.
I’m not sure if it matters, but the car has been in an accident before – we bought it that way.
Could the instrument cluster itself be faulty? Have you ever seen a case like that?
I think I heard that the mechanic used to work at a Citroën dealership, but I’m not completely sure.
He suggested that I should look for someone who has the original factory diagnostic tool that was used by Citroën dealerships when the car was new — but realistically, I don’t have much chance of finding someone like that.
There’s also the option of taking it to a nearby official Citroën service center, but I can’t really afford their labor costs.
And honestly, if they spend even 8 hours working on it, it could end up costing more than the car is worth.
