309 GLDT Speedo

can anyone help with this problem?
I have a 309 gldt 1993.
originally the speedo cable snapped, so I replaced it and it worked fine for a couple of weeks, then it went berserk, for every mile i did it clocked up 115 miles, finally it has now stopped working altogether, has anyone had this sort of problem?
any info would be much appreciated

Does the speedo needle still work? if it does not it sounds as the speedo head, is US.
