ABS & ESP Warning Light

Hi all,

I'm getting the ABS & ESP warning error coming up on my dash and my screen. This has been happening for around a week and it's very inconsistent at to when it comes on/off.

My first thought was the brake light switch, so I have changed that, but still have the same issue.

If I start the van and the warning light comes on, I can more often than not get it to turn off by pressing the brake pedal really hard.

Whilst I have the ABS & ESP warning, my cruise control also does not work.

I've plugged in a basic OBD reader and it shows no error codes, which I find strange.

The vehicle is a Peugeot Partner 1.6 Blue HDI 75.

Any advice or something to point me in the right direction is much appreciated.

Check the battery voltage in case it needs charging, otherwise you will need a proper diagnostic. Low cost code readers only look for fault codes that put the engine management light on so are unlikely to look at the abs sensors to see if one is faulty or other ones that might give abs warnings. Replacing lots of parts hoping to find the right one without a diagnostic can be costly.

Having just got our partner we had the abs/traction control lights come up. I gave it a scan with my autel ap200. C0040 code came up. The scanner reported brake light switch fault. However, this code is reported by AI on the internet as osf wheel speed sensor. Whilst deciding which road to go down a rescan brought up p0571 (if I remember)intermittent. Both these together point to the autel being correct and so I changed the brake light switch and all has been well for the last few days. Changing the switch itself was a little strange. If you have seen one you will know they have a serrated edge, which locks into position after the pedal is depressed. Now I don't know if these things should be primed before fitting. I put it in, checked the brake lights worked and drove off. After about half a mile the brakes slowly applied themselves until they almost locked up. Fortunately I was just able to put the old one back in and carry on home. On examination I found the old switch had three serrations showing. I pushed the plunger, on the new switch, manually until six serrations where showing then refitted it. So, either the new switch was stuck when manufactured or they should be primed before insertion. Hope this little story may help others. Oh and it proved the autel ap200 is a great scanner. I use it on my Jag as well.

Many fault codes are car manufacturer specific so can mean different things so always best to search with the car make and AI has often/mostly to be ignored.
