Radiator Fan Citroen C3 (2013)

Unread post by RickyD »

Hi all, sorry if an answer to this is already on here somewhere.
I have a 2013 Citroen C3 and the radiator fan isn't spinning at all.
When the engine is hot it doesn't spin, when the AC is on I get nothing.
There's no fault codes, I've changed dashboard, engine and MF fuse for the fans and replaced the radiator fan relay.
The car had the AC regassed a couple of weeks ago and was fine for a couple of days before the AC wasn't cold anymore which is when I seen the fan wasn't spinning.
Im not really much of a car guy so I've done a lot of googling and youtubing, if I can work it out, I'm going to try and use direct power from the battery to the fan to make sure the motor is working.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the issue may be or something simple I may have missed? Is it worth taking the hit and just take it straight to a garage (I've just moved to a totally new area in the country, so don't know a good garage yet!).

Any info/advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I had the same issue with my C5. Diagnosed the fan being kaputsky, Searched all over and purchased from Jollies wreckers in Dandenong the early fan for a 2009, $125, fitted, all good now.
I’m going to have a vent also with regards to my mechanic, who shall remain nameless, as my issue with the car going into limp home mode, staying in second gear after temps approached max. Joe’s diagnosis was that there was Adblue in place of the required DPF fluid and this was the cause. After changing the DPF container and filling with new fluid it happened again on the next hot day in traffic, obviously fan not working was the problem. I’d say $700 spent unnecessarily!

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've replaced the fan...no change, still won't spin...any ideas what to look at next?

Had a play about more - when the engine is running if I unplug and plug back in the ?fan control connector? (Smaller plug going into the fan control relay), then the fan comes on for around 5 seconds, before it clicks and cuts off.
Any ideas what may be the issue? Loose/damaged wire or something else?

Hi, I have a 2015 C3 1.4 HDI and had a problem with the radiator fan not working. You say you have no fault codes but some test gear donot read cooling faults or live data of the air con system as its in the BSI system. Even if you can see this information I found it can throw up bad information if the Radiator fan relay is faulty. If you are testing the fan by connection to the battery take care as it draws high amps so needs thick cable. If you have had the fan working even for short periods I would guess the fan and Maxi fuse that feeds it are OK. My problem turned out to be the fan relay that I had already replaced with a good brand from Euro Parts that was either faulty or not compatible with my model . I ended up buying an original Citroen one off Ebay for about the same price that finaly fixed mine.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I will try another fan relay... hopefully that solves it!

Hi, so I tried the original relay that I had with the exact same results. The fan wasn't doing anything at all prior to putting in a new fan, so I think that was an issue, but I'm pretty stumped as to what the issue is, a wiring issue maybe?
I seem to have tried everything I can read about.
I haven't changed the water temp sensor, but did unplug it and apparently the fan should kick in when it's unplugged and it didn't, not sure if that helps?
Thanks again in advance
