Eolys Reset or Ignore. Warning not gone after topup.

Unread post by funkibludawg »

Bonjour,

Have a 2014 Citroen C4 Picasso which had the "Diesel Particulate filter additive too low" warning.
Local friendly garage has topped up the Eolys fluid, but seems to have trouble removing the warning (or Resetting the Eolys counter in the ECU to zero)
The original warning still appears

This garage is using Autel, Launch or Snapon diagnostic scanners.
Are these scanners capable of resetting the Eolys counter successfuly ?
Or it needs a trip to the official Citroen Dealer ?
(I read about Lexia/Digibox being used for this, but this looks like a more complicated option, is there some forum member in Berkshire, who can help ?)

Whats the consequence of ignoring the warning. Does the car go into limp mode, even if the additive level is now correct ?

My 2010 C3 Picasso has been like that for over a year, I bought it that way, it warns at startup but then goes away until next time, the Eolys fluid is full, it regenerates properly, my Launch code reader is not able to reset it though I have yet to shell out on the additional software which might work, you are probably fine to drive on.

Thank you, if it will still work, makes it less urgent.

Will use the time to find another friendly garage/Citroen official might have the right software. If it's cheap 😀

It will still regen but at 500c, with eolys it can do it at 400c.

Less stress on the comeonents.

It needs resetting in the Engine ECU and the Additive ECU. The DPF will still try and regenerate, but it will not reach the required 550°C for burn off that vehicles that don't use Eolys will.

Eolys works to reduce the temperature the soot will burn, which happens at 450°C with Eolys. The ECU will not allow the temperature to go above 465°C without reprogramming. Therfore your DPF will slowly block up.

500°C will only be reached through sustained load on the Engine. Active regeneration will only reach 450-465°C.

I've been here with this exact problem and had thought it would still regenerate, it doesn't. It won't effectively burn uncoated soot at the lower temperature.

I believe that as long as there is eolys fluid in the tank it will continue to be dosed if the dosing pump is working. The low level warning is based on a calculation and not a measurement so does not know how much fluid is left. I think the low level warning does not stop the pump working but just needs the diagnostic to stop the warning message.

It's sorted now

Found a local Citroen specialist garage.
Who used a Snap-on diagnosis unit to clear the error/reset the Ecu counter. And seemed knowledgeable!

Cost me £60 + vat for the reset.
(Citroen dealer wanted £150+)

The place I used
