DS9 battery

Unread post by DS9 »

Hi

Just a quick question.

I had a few woes with my DS9 battery a while ago after taking delivery (Aug 2023). It seems with the car being sat for almost a yr prior to delivery the dealership (Nissan) replaced the original and instead of fitting the start stop Napa AGM 096N instread just fitted a 096N which is a completely different thing and not start stop compatible...... apparently.

That said in the first 6 months or so I owned it the start stop did work sometimes, how this happens with a non start stop battery I don't know, but it happened, as did the freewheeling. But in general coming from a diesel Fiat 500x the battery did feel weedy.

All the same I changed it to the correct battery, not the NAPA version but a Bosch S5 A08, more expensive, same Amps, same Ah's and an option which came up on the kwikfit finder tool. Ordered it off Tayna and fitted myself.

Now the car is a sat a lot, might not be used for a couple of wks at a time, and im used to going into it, turning on the ignition (not starting) and in a few mins it goes into economy mode and shuts down. This is probably because there is a small drain on the battery when it's not being used and over a prolonged period of time this dwindles to low levels.

....but. Over Easter I drove around 200 miles in a day and unlike previous times when the battery charges to a level and freewheeling starts (and start stop)....normally after about 50 miles, this wasnt happening. Then on the way home 2 days later, another 200 miles just right at the very end did SS and FW occur. Surprised me.

2 days after this I got in the car, had the ignition on for a minute listening to the radio and it went into economy mode again. Something doesn't feel right.

Took it into DS for a healthcheck to specifically see what the problem could be, instead of them doing a diagnostic on it so far all I've had in response is the battery is non standard. Makes my blood boil. So I've explained the situation to them again and hopefully they will test it properly.

I know Marc has said in the past that it seems for some cars the SS etc has a bit of a mind of it's own as to when it wants to engage..... going off the info above would you suspect it's nothing more than this or something else?

Use a volt meter to check the battery voltage, if fully charged it will be about 12.7 volts before the first start of the day. Below about 12.5 volts and it needs charging. This will not tell you if it is down on capacity though which can happen if the voltage is low for some time.

This is my theory.
Being a 2023 vehicle, it probably constantly "Phones Home" especially if you are using the Citroën App and/or keyless entry, modern cars never really go to sleep, my step daughter has a small Toyota, when she goes away for a while she leaves trickle charges it.
Is your DS9 a PHEV or ?

I'm actually using both keyless and the DS app, perhaps that's the issue?

My car is the ICE 225hp version, non PHEV.
