Peugeot Expert Won’t Rev

Unread post by Bikerbutch »

Hi all I have joined in the hope someone can assist me.

I bought a Peugeot Expert 2011 1.6HDI

I’ll save you all the horrendous sob story but I’ve been had. I didn’t want the vehicle but I’d already sent the money.

There’s no engine light on, but it will not rev above 3000rpm so the max speed is about 58-60mph.

I’ve took it to my local garage who diagnosed first the MAF and he replaced this, then the EGR valve and had this replaced.

No different.

The only codes stored were for the MAF no others.

They said they’ve tested the egr solenoid with their diagnostics (not PSA specialist equipment) and onion and closes but no different.

They’ve said the turbo appears fine and I’m not sure what else they’ve checked but I’m now £300+ for parts and god knows how much for labour.

They’ve mentioned they think the ECU may be corrupt??

I drove the van like this over 400miles to get it home and it drives perfect apart from this.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I’m Blackpool based.

I live in hope.

I had similar when I bought a C5. Took it to a garage near where I worked and they removed all the inlet hoses, EGR and intercooler. All were fouled heavily with oil.
They cleaned everything and when I collected it that evening it was like a different car, off like a rocket up the hill.

On another occasion, may have been the same one or or the one it replaced, the intercooler had a hole in it.

On other occasions with both it has been the MAF. Cleaning that with carburettor cleaning spray worked wonders.

Where did the MAF come from? Many of the cheaper ones are fake and worse than useless!

The MAF from what I know was genuine.

Just to add as I don’t think I was clear in the original post. This is definitely being limited like it’s in limo mode. It’s not just struggling to rev past 3k, it won’t. It’s defo in some kind of limp mode

Sounds like you need a better / different scanner, I would expect some codes if it's in limp mode.

Does the engine light come on before the engine is started - just to check its bulb is working - and then go off once running ?

The garage used a snap on scanner and a top don one.

Ironically he said he could do more like solenoid tests on the egr etc with the top don one.

Seriously considering getting some pug diagnostics

And if it was limp mode i would expect the EML to be on too.

First thing I would look at is thin rubber pipes to the electro-valves they crack and leak air at the joints and sometimes get holes where they rub against other stuff, it can play havoc with the running.
