lower dashboard,

Unread post by saffdave »

I want to fit a new steering gear for a Clio 2008 campus, but I need to know how to remove the dashboard that fits around the steering column. I tried YouTube, but there is nothing on it.

Ai says

1. Remove the Steering Column Upper & Lower Shrouds
The casing directly around the steering column consists of two halves (upper and lower):
Locate the Underside Screws: Look at the bottom face of the lower plastics under the column. You will see two deep recessed holes containing T20 Torx screws. Remove both screws.
Release the Adjustment Lever: Pull down the steering column reach/tilt adjustment lever (if fitted) to give yourself clearance.
Separate the Two Halves: Gently insert a thin plastic trim tool into the seam where the top and bottom halves meet. Unclip the top shroud from the lower section and set it aside.
Remove the Lower Shroud: Tilt and pull the lower plastic section down and away from the column. You may need to manipulate it around the ignition barrel/key slot.
2. Remove the Lower Driver's Knee Panel / Dash Trim
To access the lower joint, intermediate shaft, and pinch bolt for the steering rack/gear replacement, you need to drop the lower dashboard trim:
Remove Fuse Box Cover / Side Panel: Open the driver’s door and pop off the fuse box access panel on the outer side edge of the dashboard using a trim tool.
Unscrew Lower Retainers:
Locate the Torx screws along the bottom edge of the knee panel (near the pedals/bonnet release).
Remove any screws securing the bonnet release lever handle if it sits directly on the panel.
Unclip and Lower the Panel: Gently pull the lower dash panel towards the driver's seat to release its friction clips.
Disconnect Harnesses: Reach behind the panel to disconnect any wiring plugs (such as the headlight level adjust switch, traction control button, or OBD diagnostic port) before fully lifting the panel away.
