Citroen c5 x7 2.0 ml6c gear box

Unread post by darbuck »

Hi all, has anyone removed just the gearbox from a 2l C5 x7, or is it just easier to remove the whole lot? The reason I ask is I need to change mine as my diff has started knocking and grinding. I'm going to buy a used one and throw it into it and try to repair the old one as a spare.there is at least 5mm of slip on both sides of the diff so quite a bit.

Darren,

I would suggest remove engine and gearbox together and split when out. My reasoning is you have taken the unit out before so know the various problems a head.

I think the difficulty of removing gearbox itself, it's extremely tight to come out and if you are only using axle stands might be difficult due to weight and access.

Other members will have there thoughts and opinions.

Hi Kenny, I thought as much it's probably safer to do the engine and gearbox as you say.its just so much work involved I was hoping to cut down on it but I think you are right.it means pulling the front of the car off as well to protect bumper rad and condenser. And I think I will pull the turbo position sensor as well while I am at it. I have broken two of them with all the engine in out malarkey.
