Xantia MK II removing centeral consul

Unread post by lancia58 »

Hi,

I have an MK-II Xantia make year 200o with AL4 gearbox. For some reason it look like there is lots of Hydraulic fluid under the carpets so I decided to remove the carpets wash them and the sponge under the carpets to get dry. In order to do this I have to remove the floor central console ( part number 7588Z6 ) . I remove all nuts and screws that secure the console to the chassis but it looks that the handbrake lever should be removed to enable removing the console. The handbrake lever is secured to the chassis with two nuts. I removed the nuts but I can not detach the handbrake lever, I think it is because the cable that is connected to handbrake.
I have couple of questions:

1) Should the handbrake lever be removed in order to remove the console ?
2) If I succeed in detaching the handbrake lever will it be problematic to attach it back to the chassis because of the cable that is connected to the lever ( the cable that operates manually the front calipers ) is very tight .

Thanks
Zohar

With the handbrake off, slip the cable end off of one of the front calipers, you will then be possible to pull the handbrake lever almost vertical and you should be able to manoeuvre the console off.

You will still find that the carpet is trapped in place by the cable near the lever, but that is easily solved by cutting the carpet, which will be hidden by the console when reassembled.

Hi,

I found a salvaged Xantia but the left carpets front and rear were also soaked with Hydraulic fluid. So I got to the conclusion that it because of a leaky Doser. I guess that any salvaged Xantia will have the same problem. It is design fault.
I guess in RHD Xantia the Doser is located at the right side so the left carpets front and left should be clean. So I have to check here in the forum if anyone has a salvaged Xantia and is willing to sheep it .

Thanks
Zohar
