Timing Belt interval for Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 Exclusiv BlueHDi

Could somebody please advise on the timing belt change interval for my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 Exclusiv BlueHDi.

It is just over 77k miles and saw posts here recommending changing at 80k for some vehicles.

What year is your car ? I am not sure which engine you have since in your title you have 1.6 vti and also blue hdi. The vti engines are petrol, the blue hdi engines are diesel.

Often Citroen specify 10 years or a mileage if sooner but if you have a vti petrol engine as in your title, then I believe it has a chain and not a belt. These can wear and indications may be fault codes suggesting the timing is out. The hdi engines have a timing belt.

Sorry, its the diesel registered in 2016 - not sure where the 1.6 VTi came from!

Christos, in your profile under My Cars you put Vti, that's why the confusion. But if your car is a 1.6 BlueHDI with 16 valves then it has a timing belt and chain that drives 2 cams. As PaulC5 says it's time to change the timing belt, water pump, spanners and probably the chain.

As a guide, it was about £700 for the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, coolant to be replaced on our 1.6 hdi Cactus at the dealer in December 2023. It was then 7 years old and 63k miles but I do not like leaving it to the max recommended 10 years interval. Adding the MOT and auxiliary belt replacement the total was £835. Maybe it could have been done cheaper elsewhere but on something important I prefer to use the experts.

1.6 HDi will be 8 valve, only the later 1.5 is 16v.

The official interval is 10 years / 112k, but they like to break early so 8 years / 80k is safer. It's not a hard belt to do and the engine is very common, so any competent garage will be able to do it, about £400 using a decent belt kit.
