C5x7 faults for "everything "

Unread post by aerodynamica »

Ok not everything but park brake. Esp, abs, anti roll back.

I think it's actually one fault that causes everything here to also fall.

Got the code C1321 relating to wheel sensor

Abs sensor?

Have you tried driving it with live data to see the individual wheel speeds?
Does the fault clear? if so does it come back as soon as the ignition is switched on or does it only come back once you start driving the car?

Yes pretty much that, not looked at the live data yet but it certainly reappears with the ignition on. The warning appeared on the M way

Very likely an ABS sensor, yes. All those systems rely on a speed signal and typically (on most makes of car tbh!) when an abs sensor fails, they all flag a fault.
As already suggested, live data while driving is the way to confirm.

It is most probably going to be a sensor failed but if you want to be thorough & check it properly you should really do a continuity check of the wiring between the ABS ECU & the sensor & check the wires for shorts to positive, earth & together.
Depends if the sensor is cheap enough to warrant a guess at it?

Well one thing that's good if that I have a new sensor left over from when I changed the o/s hub carrier and ball joints. I had bought a replacement abs sensor but in the end did not change it.

If I knew the pinouts for the abs wiring I could test for continuity. Perhaps the n/s sensor has just had its day though.

What happens with the abs ring on these?

The pickup is a magnetic track on the wheel bearing.

But do these rings fail? Corrosion or something

I just changed the LH front ABS sensor, cleared all the faults in each ECU and went for a test. About 1 km along the road the same faults came back..

I connected the lexia again and looked at the dynamic data just there - out of time this evening but moved the car a couple of meters back and all 4 wheel sensors showed the same 2.2kmh. Moved forward and all 4 showed 1.9km/h. That says to me that at low speed and short distance at least, the sensor sends the right signal.

I have a feeling the sensor maybe throws up wrong signal after a certain speed/ distance. Yet to confirm this.

If it is caused by the magnetic ring, what is the fix for this? Can this ring be removed off the CV joint like the old toothed rings? Or is this ring an integral part of the CV joint and needs the CV joint replaced?

Oh and it never rains but it pours. Front passenger window regulator has packed in. Cannot fully close. Jammed/ inop about10mm from closed. Regulator/ cables/ motor I guess.

Mag track is part of the bearing - got to replace it if faulty. If the ABS light goes out when you clear the fault, then comes back when the car moves, likely a bit of the track has fallen off.

Window regulator used to be a common fail - you could buy a repair cable set. Not sure if you still can.

Hi Richard, I'll have to dig deeper it seems.

Had a chance to look at the dynamic data from the wheel sensors.

It looks like all 4 sensors are getting sensible readings. Driving straight, that are all the same value as you'd expect. I spent 10 mins driving at less than 10kp/h around the car park areas outside work.

Do why does the car give a fault of sensor incoherence when all 4 seem to give good readings?
If you squint you can make out the 4x sensor speeds
If you squint you can make out the 4x sensor speeds
I wonder if the sensor reading only goes incoherent above a speed. Trouble is you can't go above 10kph while testing or it disconnects.

The above photo was taken going in circles hence the difference in the sensors' speed readings

Can you graph them in Lexia, or do you have Diagbox?

I think that might be possible but I've not tried it. Will have a further look
