Xantia - Anti Sink Sphere

Unread post by XantiaNonStarter »

I have a non-hydractive Xantia and tried to change the rear anti-sink sphere. I managed get the sphere moving. However I noticed as I then turned it by hand the pipe at the back was also twisting. There’s something between the sphere and pipe isnt there? They are all moving together.

I don’t think I have done any damage or bent the pipe. When I repressurised the suspension there were no leaks. Has anyone got any good advice?

Hi, I think the anti sink sphere has that pipe screwed directly into it. I think this type of sphere is different in that respect to all other spheres. I think it's mounted on a bracket in the subframe that corrodes. But fortunately you're getting it moving.

I would try to disconnect that pipe at the other end and remove the sphere and pipe together. You could hopefully then work to get the pipe out with the old sphere clamped in a vise.

Thanks for your help, yes I think you are right.
It was beginning to dawn on me that the pipe is screwed directly into the back of the sphere

Now you have (maybe) twisted the pipe, you will need to closely inspect it to check it has not spiralled inside the fixture nut.

Alasdair,
Yes you are right. The pipe was twisted. I had to cut it to get the old sphere off the car.

I ordered a new pipe and the car is now all back together and working. Just need to bleed the brakes. Thanks for your advice.
