Citroën Xantia - Expansion tank conufusion

Hi everyone.

Today, I read Haynes manual and what it says about checking coolant level on a Xantia II 2.0 16V (XU10J4R RFV) but I couldn't understand what it means!

This is what Haynes says about Xantia:

This is what inside the expansion tank of my car looks like:

In the following picture, I have specified the level of coolant with a red arrow and the blue bar is the height of the slot which is empty:

Is it overfilled? Should I drain some coolant and bring the level lower?

It seems that there is a tube inside the tank and it has a slot. According to Haynes, the slot should start from the bottom of the tube but it is exactly the opposite in my car and it starts from the top (it is upside down!).

Could someone please tell me what is the correct level of coolant in Xantia?

Yours is a touch overfilled but it should be fine, the overflow tube is there for a reason. But you can wedge your thumb into the orange piece and it will come out when you pull on it, then you can see it.

I think this was a pretty daft design by the engineers because you cannot do a quick visual check on the level and colour like on other cars out there. My 1.9td keeps its level high but when I fill up our 2.0i the level drops to the bottom of the tank after a week of driving and then stays there So its hard to say what the correct level is, but keep it filled I guess.

Bottom of the slot that you can see is 'max', which is where it should be when cold.
You're barely over the bottom of that.
It's fine, don't worry.
