Wheel Alignment

Unread post by Steve Walsh »

Just had 2 front tyres replaced, old ones show excessive wear on inside edge and tracking needs doing, Tyre shop has refused to do this because of the camera system / lane departure system needs recalibrating, Havent come across this before, Surely the alignment will be put back to factory setting and not need camera system adjusting.
Anyone had this problem
C5 Aircross 2021.

Sounds utter rubbish to me. If you have the Radar system in the front grille, this should not be affected at all - as if it was affected by tracking, it would of thrown a wobbly as the tracking went out of adjustment over time from when it was originally set at factory. Second, the same applies to the camera system. The only time that really needs adjustment is if the windscreen is replaced.

There is no mention whatsoever of this in the official documentation for the steering Geometry checks and adjustment. The only thing that is a requirement is to calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor:

A calibration of the steering wheel angle sensor is necessary in the following cases (depending on equipment):
  • Following replacement of the steering mechanism and after adjusting the alignment
  • Following replacement of the steering column and after adjusting the alignment
  • Following after-sales intervention on the alignment
So I suggest you get it done elsewhere and don't mention anything about cameras.

Thats great Marc, Is there a procedure to calibrate wheel angle sensor, Diagbox or other. I have bought a VCX Diag kit from Jim at Easydiagnostic with PSA Licence, Just waiting for an email with software link.

Yes, but I don't have this - there are obvious factors like ensuring that the tyres are correctly inflated, the steering wheel is dead ahead etc., but the system is guided in Diagbox, but I can't help with the other diagnostic kit's operation.

If it was me - I'd be leaving this to the dealer because of the correct torques and tools required to do the job properly including the calibration.
