Hi guys,
Appreciate i'm new here - so firstly hello everyone, lurker here!
I have a 2019 Citroen Relay 2.0HDI 130 VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Mileage is 87000 approx.
I'm looking to see the best place to purchase a Diagbox for this vehicle - read somewhere that the commercial vans sometimes need an additional module?
Reasons for diagnostics is: at about 1/4 on the temperature gauge the engine fan comes on, it goes off with the engine but it's quite loud and doesn't seem normal. I noticed a bit of smoke from the exhaust, and oil level is high.
I'm about to change the oil to get back to a level playing field - the van is fairly new to me so i haven't been able to monitor this from a known point hence changing oil now.
There are no warning lights on the dash for DPF etc, and i did a basic scan with a bluetooth OBD reader and there were no active faults. I'm hoping to check the level of the Eolys tank but not sure how i can do that visually..

Re: DiagBox for 2019 Citroen Relay
Update: drained and changed the oil just now, drained a full ~8 litres out which definitely seems too much, it’s the first change I’ve done on the van as only owned it a few weeks so again unsure if this has increased since the last service or if it was simply overfilled. The oil didn’t smell of diesel as far as I could tell, although it was quite thin. Pre-filled my filter and refilled with ~6 litres and it’s sitting near the full line.
Went and stuck half a tank of fuel in, monitored coolant temp. Fan came on at around 70-74c and coolant temp stabilised around 95c for duration of drive. Fan stayed on the whole time, fan goes off with the key. It’s the fan on the passenger side that is coming on, (left hand side if looking forward).
I put in some generic redex diesel cleaner and when I got home after 20mins of driving and sat on the drive way, when you press the accelerator quite significant amounts of black smoke come out the exhaust for a second, it then let revs drop and accelerate again, more black smoke.
Going to go take it a 20min drive on the motorway just now and keep the revs up.
I’d love to know the Eolys levels but unsure how to check that, at 87K miles it could be empty I think as I think it might’ve been used for short drives previously.
Sounds like I need to get proper diagnostics to check the DPF pressure delta.

doubt you have run out of the Eolys fluid yet, as mine on same engine, reports only around half used, in 95k miles. That's is something you can check for yourself using the Lexia cable and the Diagbox software.
the sump only takes slightly less than 7l so your 8l drained may indicate some contamination from too frequent regens Again this is where Diagbox comes in, as you can check the differential pressure of the DPF which should be less than 10mbar at 800rpm and around 25mbar at 2000rpm. Higher values more regens but the frequency is also available in the Exhaust line data.
the full chip cable can be purchased from Aliexpress for around £70, and the software links are in the filessection of the FB grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743393003111634/

Just took the van out a 30min drive on the motorway, kept RPM at 4K and the fan was off when i got home which is good! But i suppose that does point to some potential DPF issues.
I'll get the diagnostics stuff ordered up as it'll be useful in the future, and then can check from there the DPF readouts.

forgot to mention, I use the free Diagbox 9.68 Fantomel version which runs as a Virtual Machine using the Vmware Pro Workstation, again no license needed for non commercial use. There's an excellent "Diagbox 9 VM Install Guide" guide in that FB group Files section

Diagbox will also need the S.1279 Fiat adapter to read most ECU's on the van.dougie1142 wrote: 07 Mar 2025, 10:53 read somewhere that the commercial vans sometimes need an additional module?

Re: DiagBox for 2019 Citroen Relay 2.0HDI 130
don't use the S.1279 adapter on my set up as I can get to the all important engine and brake system ECUs without. Those adapters are notoriously unreliable, with some cable and software sellers refusing to stock, and with many examples of wiring needing resoldering to get them to work. So would probably use the AlfaOBD software myself, in the event I needed to access the other ECUs not currently available
