1.6HDi high mileage performance durable

Unread post by xsara92 »

Not a call for help, but experiences of those who owned a 1.6HDi engine to a high mileage (16v or 8v).
I am wondering if it is common for these engines to start burning oil if they are pushed too hard?
I'm on my second 16v engine..I've noticed with both that to get to 70mph, I hit a wall so to speak.
My first engine failed on emissions...in the run up, 'performance' was a lot higher, but only after many months of 'pushing' the engine on dual carriageways, eventually getting to a point where speed was no barrier, from having been a serious barrier earlier on. I (once) reached 83mph  without making a lot of noise - a high speed for 1560cc!
How likely is oil consumption for this, and should speed be limited under motorway conditions?

Sounds like you've had multiple broken\faulty engines.

There should be no significant oil consumption regardless of speed, and 83mph is not an especially high speed.
