Immobiliser/anti theft system locked due to wrong code entered 1997 306
Hello! I am desperately looking for any assistance or advice at all as I really am going crazy over this. I have a 1997 306, 1.9 turbo diesel. He has a keypad which I use to start the engine, you enter 4 digits and away you go. My car recently got taken to a garage as he needed repairs on an unrelated part. My mechanic didn’t have the 4 digit code to hand, and so proceeded to repeatedly enter and guess a code which has now enabled the immobiliser and the car won’t start. I have tried resetting the keypad and that didn’t work. From my manuals it it saying that I need to take him to a dealership, but when I call they don’t seem to know what I’m taking about and want £200 just for a diagnosis which I do not need. Most car garages won’t look at it. I have a quote from one auto electrician to disconnect it completely for £400, and a possible locksmith who think they can do it for £300, but I’m not convinced. I want to keep the system in place ideally, and just reset it as it’s such a cool feature. The green and red lights come on simultaneously on they keypad atm, which means it has locked or there is a fault. Does anybody have any advice please or know any place that will be able to unlock this for a reasonable cost? I already need to replace my clutch which will be very expensive. I love this car to pieces and despite age and the high mileage, has never failed me and is so fun to drive. Any help much appreciated, it’s really bringing me down how unhelpful garages and Peugeot have been. It’s a 30 year old car I never thought it would have such a complicated device! Thank you so much.

Wow, that's a time warp! I can't remember exactly how these responded to multiple incorrect code inputs, but I think green and red lights indicates a fault. Do you have a handbook, what does it say about incorrect codes? These can be defeated as the other end of the immobiliser is the stop solenoid on the injection pump, unfortunately it requires removal of the pump and some controlled aggression to remove the amouring. I very much doubt a current Pug dealer would have the kit to interrogate one of these any more, and even then would probably just say they can't get any parts.

Re: Immobiliser/anti theft system locked due to wrong code entered 1997 306
From an XM Forum somewhere, not sure if it helps:
Some Mk 1 had an early version of the keypad system.
These had an 0000 code setting which was the immo disable function, a feature that was not continued on any Mk 2 XM models.
Setting the garage code as 0001 was to avoid having to give out your personal code for maintenance work.
The immobiliser was still operative with the 0001 code.
From 1995 the garage code changed to 1111.
Late in the XM production a further change allowed the garage code to be set to any code except the current user code.
Early ECU's had a 1 minute time out after 3 wrong keypad attempts.
Later in production this time out was changed to 1 hour.
Please Don't PM Me For Technical Help

It's certainly worth leaving it powered up for a few hours (battery charger needed!) to see if it resets. I have it in the back of my mind red and green lights = fault however....

If there is not a fault with the system & it has just had the wrong code entered then it should just be time locked out, it will do this to stop you just trying random codes.
As said above leave the ignition switched on (with battery support) for at lead one hour, hopefully it should just change to a red only light & allow you to enter the correct code.
Red & green on together does mean a fault but i also cant remember if it also means it is time locked out.

Simultaneous red and green lights is usually a sign that the immobiliser keypad is not able to communicate with the ECU.
I am not sure which fuel system your car has, is it Bosch or Lucas?
Any timeout for bad code entry should be cleared by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds. Check that all connections to the pump are undamaged.

Its a long time since I played with one of these key pads.
As said above normally the key pad is just time locked.
If all the resetting does not work try to find an old school Peugeot Specialist Ind` like this one near you , https://mdrakeandson.com/garage-services/
TIP? When you have it all working properly.
Start the car, leave it running and remove the multi plug from the key pad, you will now be able to start the car without using the key pad.
I did this when my wife had an old 406 with the same key pad system.

One other thought... I remember someone with an XM having an immobiliser that would not accept the correct code, and it turned out that water had got into the keypad, which needed to be dismantled and dried internally.
