Berlingo MK3 Headlight Popped Out

Unread post by jamjar360 »

Dear all,

I'd be grateful for a bit of advice please!

Another car parked in my street car has scraped the front offside bumper of my Berlingo Mk3.

As you can see from the photo, the headlight it is not mounted correctly now. It still works. There is a little bit of play but I'm unable to push it back into position.

Do I need something like a new bracket? Can this be repaired without removing the bumper? Would it need proper aligning for the next MOT?

Anyway advice gratefully received. My total insurance excess if I claim comes to £450! I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Best Wishes,

Shaun

Welcome along.

That's annoying....! Likely one of the mounting lugs has broken off (they are a designed weak point) - a lug repair kit should be available. Almost certain the bumper will have to come off, and yes it will be an MOT fail. An alternative depending on price might be a used light unit.

Thanks, as thought this doesn't sound like a DIY fix. For me at least!

I'm wondering if I may be better off going down the insurance claim route. Thinking the labour costs alone might be a bit for starters.

Presumably the bumper has to come off either way which isn't something I'd chance myself. Hoping there are some good garages in the Newcastle area for this job.

Cheers,

Shaun

You could get a few quotes from garages to do a repair and then decide whether to claim off insurance. If the person/vehicle that caused the damage is known to you their insurance should cover the claim via your insurance so your excess would not need to be paid. Removing bumpers is often only a few minutes work so labour should not be expensive. Look on ebay for a used light.
