Resistance when accelrating

Unread post by spacebiscuit »

Driving my 1.5 diesel Ds7 home tonight I experienced what felt like resistence when pulling away, almost as if a hand brake was on or brake were seized. Passenger in the back said they felt a knock sound as I accelerated. My fuel had just gone into the red so I guessed it was low fuel but the problem continued after filling up.

Issue doesn't happen when I reverse, only in lower gears especially whe pulling away or when press for power . I drove 2miles to get home cq

Any ideas.

Just checked again this morning, it happens at the biting point, clutch slipping perhaps on its way about. 62k on clock.

First make sure the noise isn't associated with leaving the car overnight and pulling away foist thing in the morning as an example - the rear brakes can 'stick' on and cause a slight creaking / banging sound when pulling away first thing. This happened to me and they just fitted the rear brake disc guards which helps stop gung getting in. Made a huge improvement and mine has 90% stopped this noise.

But if it's happening all the time after the first driving off in the morning and at clutch biting point, then try a few sharp accelerations with a sharp lift of the clutch pedal in case it's the clutch adjustment. It should sort itself out if this.

A DMF on the way out should be more easy to tell as it will start to slip (like clutch slip), so try hard acceleration in 5th or 6th gear and see if there is any higher engine noise without the immediate acceleration.

The problem started about 10 minutes into a drive last night, it was cold out but initially all ways fine until I stopped at some traffic lights and tried to pull away - a shuddering resistence. I did try hitting the brakes firmly but made no difference. It is bright and not cold when I tried earlier - I will try accelerating hard to see if that fixes anything.

Hi

My daughter had similar problems, turned out to be a worn engine mount allowing the engine to rock back and forth at clutch biting point and when accelerating in the lower gears. Just a thought.. Similar mileage too.

Ah that sounds very similar - definitely happens more on lower gears and more noticeable when accelerating. I've taken some videos to show the issue.

If it is the mount is it safe to drive - in order to get it to a garage.

The issue was a missing bolt into an engine mount. The bolt was missing and the thread had sheared, not sure if it wasn't tightened previously or if the mount itself was the issue.

A good ending to this episode at least!

Oh that's excellent news. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I couldn't make out much from your videos and I've been too busy otherwise.

Sounds like a not too bad fix, hope it's accessible.

Nice to have an old fashioned analogue problem in this digital age..

Regards
