Citroen c8 2.0 HDI headache

Unread post by StevieE »

Hello guys.
Just joined the forum hoping to get some help as I’m about to go nuts.
I have a Citroen c8 2008 2.0 hdi (RHK) and I recently replaced the engine as it had piston ring or valve seal issues and I had sourced a decent engine and I thought I’d replace it. Swapped everything over from original engine other than the injectors as 3 were completely seized. I sourced a set of 2nd hand injectors with the same code as original and she starts but will not idle. She will run very smoothly if a slight or firm rev is held but when left to idle she just dies as if air was in fuel. I have done all tests for air, fuel etc and cam / crank sensor in sequence and fuel pressure all is good. All components have been swapped from old engine so all was working fine. She starts no problem and idles for around 3 seconds and dies. No fault codes and timing is also perfect. I sent the injectors to be tested and 3 out of 4 injectors have poor solenoids. Could this cause the engine to start and drive but not idle? My injector codes is 9659337980 but I have a good set of 9657144580 from a RHR engine will they fit as a set in my RHK engine without any ECU confusions or will they need learned and can this be done with my snap on or launch scan tool? Any help / advice would be really much appreciated and thanks for reading my post. Absolute headache this has turned out to be.

Injectors with faulty solenoids can cause problems, I doubt if the 2nd hand set of injectors had the same codes as they are all different and need the codes entering into your ecu to the corresponding cylinders. Bear in mind that normally PSA engines cylinders are numbered from gearbox end as number one. If you need replacement injectors I have recently used this company.. Good prices and fantastic service.

Hello and thanks for your quick response. The only option my scan tool gives me is to program new 1 or 4 new injectors to ecu and I did that and it programmed all 4 and said it will be programmed after a drive (words to that effect). Brought it for a drive and it drove perfectly up through all the gears and all well. Once foot is taken off accelerator she dies within 3 seconds unless left in gear while driving that is the only way she won’t cut out. Still no codes in engine or BSI etc. All help is appreciated. Thanks again.

Hey guys. Got to the bottom of my idling headache. Found a break in the wiring harness going to fuel pressure regulator. Must have been weak when removing the wiring harness to remove engine and caused a small break. Once cut and rejoined the car is running sweet. Hopefully this post will help others in the future as it drove me crazy. Thanks guys
