Citroen C5 bad noice when accelerate rubber smell

Unread post by VillHamp »

Hello all.

My first post (from Sweden), but I have been here reading about adblue, pressure in coolant and so on.

The pressure in the coolant container was a bad, leaking cylinder head gasket. I went to my shop and got it removed, planed top, pressure tested and remounted. When doing this I changed the timing belt and water pump. All good so far... after some weeks and driving slightly up hill at 80+ kph the engine started to go warm, and really fast dropping again when leting go of the pedal. A bad waterpump, the plastic blade inside had a crack, and was slipping when working harder. New pump and a new set of timing belt, and a new multi belt, was offered and mounted for free. When leaving the shop I directly noticed a strange "tractor" noise from below the right side of the bonnet. I will add a movie here:

It drives well at the same speed. But when accelerate, most noticeable from start, the noise appears.

It also smell a tint of burnt rubber from the bonnet when driving for a while.

This become more text then I planned=),

Thanks in advance,

Sincerely,

// Vilhelm

The forum doesn't support uploading videos - probably because they'd be just too large.

Upload your video to YouTube and then post the link here.

I added a youtube link, my first ever=). Hope it works.

I have been in almost every Citroen there has been since 1980. My father have been, and still is, a big fan.

No time ever have he or my brothers had problems like I have had=).

Possibilities could include the new timing belt is not tensioned correctly so is noisy. The smell might be spilt coolant. Could also be an exhaust/gasket leak, always difficult to tell from many miles away. I would be taking the car back to the garage.

Hello again. Thanks for giving the post your time.

I just noticed that the sound i rawer when cold.

I have had it back to my mechanic, and next week when changing adblue tank and making a larger service he will dive in there again. I will let you know if we find some.

I just got the car back after adblue tank replacement and a service. They seem to have located the problem, it was a bad engine mount. Some mechanics remove a mount to get more room/space. Now it spins like a cat again=) (sounds great).
